Note: There are now so many “scrapper” pin sellers on ebay that it is almost impossible to find sellers of legitimate pins to buy from. How the pin selling on ebay has changed over the last five years is extremely sad for the hobby of pin collecting. Many pins are now all but worthless, because you can buy their scrappers for usually less than a buck apiece from the sellers offering them in ‘lots’ or ‘grab bags’ of 50, 100, up to just about any amount you can name. It shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that these pins are not legitimate. Disney does not wholesale pins to the public for resale. So where do these sellers find their thousands of pins? Just google “disney pins wholesale”, and see all the Chinese companies pop up on your screen that are all too happy to sell you scrapper pins for 50 cents or even less, (the more you buy, the cheaper they are), provided you are willing to buy in quantities of at least a couple hundred or more. Have yourself a ball. Just remember these are defective 2nd quality pins from worn out molds, mostly rack pins, hidden mickeys, and other extremely common pins that are now so common because of scrapper sales, that they aren’t worth the metal they are molded from. We have never purchased scrapper pins from China, and we never will. But we are about to go out of the pin business on ebay because uninformed pin collectors are scooping up these illegal ‘bargain’ pins by the truckload, and are refusing to pay reasonable prices for legitimate pins. In the long run they will find out that what they got wasn’t worth what they paid, as eventually everyone will have them and nobody will want them. This is all made possible because the Chinese do not respect intellectual property rights like patents and copyrights, and the world markets are too afraid of enforcing the law for fear of not being able to buy their ultra-cheaply produced goods, should they step on some toes in high places. We can no longer afford to start our auctions at a small fraction of what our legitimate pins cost us, because we frequently get only the starting bid amount, as too many bidders prefer cheap pins instead of quality ones. You can’t have an “auction” with only one bidder. Those of you who have bought from us over the years are greatly appreciated, and we hope you will continue to do so for as long as we can hold out. But our pin sales are now being subsidized by our sales of our other Disney collectibles, and we are now spending far more money on ebay pin listings and bringing in far less income, to the point of losing money. At some point it will have to end, unless ebay comes to its senses and starts enforcing the copyright and patent infringement policies it supposedly has, and puts these black market sellers out of business. We would like to suggest that any collectors legitimately concerned over the dropping values of their pin collections might want to call or email ebay about their objections to ebay’s continuing policy of looking the other way.
